Portland Museum Addition, ME

In this project, we had to create an addition to the existing PMA. Like a volcanoe, I wanted the addition to be recognized from far away, be a focal point in the city by catching the eye of the passerby. How ? By creating a base that is holding the building and making it ‘emerge’, as a volcanoe. The complexity of the pattern would also be inspired by the existing elevation of the PMA, mixing different geometries and experiencing the circle in the circulation. Allowing a different kind of light at the base of the building which would be stimulating in the education room. That base surrounding the building would also create a city scale. The mirror composant of all four façades will reflect the community around it.
